Hundreds of billions of Locusts of “biblical proportions” swarming Eastern Africa now

Eastern Africa, destroying hundreds of thousands of acres of farmlands.

The outbreak, which is the worst to hit Kenya for 70 years, continues to multiply at a rapid speed, and has now started to spread to neighboring countries Uganda, South Sudan and Tanzania.

Regional authorities have said that one single swarm can contain up to 150 million locusts per square kilometer farmland, which equals the size of almost 250 football fields.

The swarms covers a huge area, with some swarms being the size of cities.

The biggest single swarm found so far was 40×60 kilometers.

It’s being warned that the number of locusts could expand 500 times by the summer.

The locusts eat most of the vegetation they can find, and can destroy up to 100% of all crops in the areas they invade.

Each insect can eat its own weight in food, per day.

A medium-size swarm can eat the same amount of food as the entire population of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York every day.

The locusts are of a species known as the “Desert Locust”.

They are particularly known for being very destructive, with speedy growth and enormous appetites. They are found in 30 different countries throughout Africa and the Middle-East.

The swarms in Eastern Africa come from Yemen, by the Red Sea. From there, the swarms has spread out of control and invaded a large area of Eastern Africa.

They can travel up to 150 kilometers a day.

The swarm is the worst to hit Africa for decades, but Africa is not the only place to be hit by Locust swarms.

Pakistan also has big problems with Locusts damaging wheat and cotton plantations.

They have also spread to Northwest India, and now it’s reported that the first locusts have reached the corona-virus struck China.
